Rochester Local Section (Chartered in 1912)

Volunteers are needed to help teach or assist a 4th-grade science class one hour per month in either a city or suburban school. No prior experience is necessary. An interest in science and a desire to share that interest with someone else is all that is needed. The program is structured around the WonderScience magazine published by the ACS. A team of two teachers/assistants supports one class per month. The experiments are designed with 4th-graders in mind and are well-explained. Typically, the materials used to demonstrate the concepts are simple items from around the home. There is also an informal monthly meeting to discuss lesson plans, develop materials for the class, and to share a common interest in science.
